Collect Failures Like Medals

Make failure your job. Sounds crazy, right? But think about it for a second, if you're not afraid of failing...what can possibly stop you? (hint: not much...from an emotional / confidence standpoint anyway).

As a thought exercise - what if you decided to put aside all your dreams about success and make failure your # 1 goal each day? What do you think would happen? I know a few things that would happen:

  1. You'd have a lot more control over meeting your goal each day--because that goal would be failing--and you can make that happen just by just trying.

  2. In the process you'd be taking a lot of "shots on goal"—a great thing that is necessary to put the odds of success in your favor.

  3. Perhaps most importantly, you'd be keeping yourself in the game. A lot of people beat themselves by taking themselves out of the game mentally after failing. This won’t be you.

Let the rest of it--including the wins--sort itself out Like my man Winston Churchill said:

"Success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm" - Winston Churchill

It's a bit of a mental hack, but try it...I think you’ll find it quite enjoyable. There is an ease about switching to failure as the goal, because it moves you away from pining for success--out of your control--and moves you toward something that is in your control--namely, meeting this world with your chin up each day and making sure to take your shots on goal.

So go out there and collect failures like they are trophies, because they are. Be proud of them. Keep yourself in the game, and let other people keep the score. You'll know when you’ve hit a home run.

Why is this important for me? If you're not afraid to fail, you have a HUGE leg up on the world. It also means you're not letting the dark forces of this world win. The forces that will suppress your hopes and dreams if given any opportunity. You are defeating them by transcending your fear around them and hence their power over you. That's important. The worlds you and your gifts. So be your own best coach, advocate, and friend and make failure your goal. As crazy as it sounds, it might just be the best way to attract success. Peace and blessings to you.

“Failure is so important. We speak about success all the time. It is the ability to resist failure or use failure that often leads to greater success. I've met people who don't want to try for fear of failing.” - J.K. Rowling
