"You can observe a lot just by watching" - Yogi Berra
Listen. Watch. Ponder. Be curious. Be an observer.
Why is this important for me? To me, observing is one of life's great pastimes. My brother and I used to love making up backstories of people we'd see in the crowd at sporting events on TV. It was a silly game, but also kind of helped develop our observation skills by noticing little details that we could build a story upon. It can also pay off in financial ways. Famed investor Peter Lynch got some of his best investing ideas when his daughters drug him to the mall (yes, this was the 90s) and he saw stores with lines out the door. He'd research their stocks, find out many still had a lot of room to expand, and invest in them reaping the benefits of their growth across the country*. The point is, be curious and look around. Life can be a lot of fun, and rewarding, to observe. Develop this habit and you'll build a great data set that will be helpful for making all sorts of decisions.
*To be clear there is a lot more to investing than this. This is not financial advice. Always consult a professional financial advisor before making any investment decisions!
